Mario Brothers Bedroom Decor
70Mario has been a favorite character amongst boys ever since he first appeared in the early 1980's. The games are loved for the action and challenge they provide. The characters are vivid and memorable. Decorating a boys bedroom with Mario Brothers is a natural choice for your game lover.
Below are three favorite characters, complete with decorating suggestions, and age appropriate guidelines. These three characters were chosen by my boys and their friends.
Mario
With his blue overalls, red shirt and yellow buttons, Mario, an Italian plumber, easily lends himself to decorating a bedroom in primary colors. My six year old is the one most enamored with Mario, and I think it is because of the bright, primary colors. He imagines a room painted sky blue, with a few white clouds floating near the ceiling. - It would be summer time, all year around! - It would also be the perfect backdrop for Mario.
Add the wall stickers available form Amazon, or make up your own cardboard cutouts. If you are handy with a brush, or have a friend who is, a mural just might be in order.
Make the bed up with a dark blue or true red comforter, and you have the basics in order. Remember, Mario was first introduced to the public as a carpenter in Donkey Kong, so if your little one enjoys building, throw in a few building supplies too.
Mario Quilts:
There is nothing more satisfing than making your little one a blanket that they chreich. If you are handy with sewing, consider making him a quilt. There are several tutorials listed below. These patterns will open in a new window.

1-Up Mushroom
This adorable green Mario Brothers one-up mushroom was my first inspiration for decorating a boys bedroom. What would I do, using this as my inspiration point?
What color would the walls be? How would the curtains look? And, most importantly, how would the bed be made up? Would I do a complete Mario Brothers themed room, or would it be better to use classic pieces and accessories?
What other characters would I want to include? I remember always liking the turtle on level four, but I liked Dr. Mario too. What to do?
Yoshi
My older kids thought Yoshi would be the perfect addition, claiming the mushroom and Yoshi to be their favorite characters.
Yoshi is a lovable dinosaur with a spunky step. His green coloring and orange spikes make him a natural for decorating with. Using mostly green, with accents of burnt orange, yellow and white, the room will be cheerful, inviting and yet conducive for sleep and study.

- Yoshi Cross Stich -- no pattern, as it was designed by the maker, but it gives an idea of what can be done.
Ages 7-12
Children this age never have just one interest. At least, not for long. They are into everything, always collecting something new.
Boys this age like bright colors and bold patterns. Their ideas are bigger than life and their rooms should match. For a boy between the ages of seven and twelve, paint the walls a neutral color such as tan, white or cream and decorate with life-sized cutouts from the game. Sky blue walls would also make a fun background.
Since making the bed seems like an impossible chore for most boys, choose a simple green comforter to go over a set of sheets. Add in just one blanket, if warmth is needed.
Accessories keep the theme going:
Ages 13 and Up
At this age, boys start to think more like men. Oh, sure, they are all little boys at heart, but their taste does begin to change. They want to express themselves more, and will take a more active roll in deciding what goes into their rooms.
Most prefer darker colors, and a bit of sophistication. No, those are not the words they will use, but it is what they mean. They want something that looks nice, without much of fuss. Earthy toned walls are trendy, while maintaining a rooted feel. They can turn a childish room into a cozy haven. Make the bed up with modern pieces that show a more grown up attitude, while maintaining a fun spirit.
