Pineapple Home Decor
72The Pineapple has been used as a symbol of welcome since colonial days, when they were highly valued as hostess gifts. Valued for their sweet taste, vitamin C and resulting health affects. Today, they are used in memory of those time, to welcome friends and neighbors into your home.
Pineapple decor can reflect colonial times, is suited to old world decor or can reflect a tropical paradise. Art work to reflect the contemporary and primitive taste can be found. Anyway you choose to use the pineapple, it will be welcoming in your home.
Let's take a look at how pineapples can be used to decorate the home, from the front door to the back patio.
The Front Door and Foyer
The front door is where your home first greets your guests, even before you know they are there, making it the perfect place to begin making them feel welcome.
Door knockers spruce up the way your home looks, save the knuckles and add a touch of character. They take even the most boring door and make it snazzy. Door knockers, like door mats, give a taste of what is to come.
Door knockers come in a wide range of materials, including cast iron, brass, copper and bronze. Pineapple door knockers come in many shapes and sizes. Choose the style and material that would best compliment your door and home decor.
Door bells are another option, for adding pineapple decorations to the front door area. They are a subtle way of saying, "Welcome, your coming is a delight!" Doorbells are already on many homes, making changing the button a practical choice. Doorbells are also great for those doors that have glass windows, making a knocker inconvenient.
Pineapple welcome mats are a great way to introduce pineapple decor to your front door, without a screwdriver. Take a look at the ones I have found on Amazon, or explore further to find one that is you.
Make sure your front door says what you what it to!
The Kitchen and Dining Room
The kitchen is one of those places where you can use many of pineapple decorations, without getting tacky, as long as you follow a few simple rules. The rules apply to any collection, and most decorating.
1. Use the rule of three. It shows up in several varieties, but always carries the same idea.
- Three of an item make the beginning of a collection.
- Use one color at least three places in the room.
2. Group collections. Scattering similar pieces over a room will give it a disjointed, cluttered feel. If you want lots of pineapple decorations, group them together, to make a display. Using a pineapple spoon rest on the stove, utensil jar beside it and pineapple relief above it will give you a pulled together look that you can either find in a collection or put together yourself, to avoid the matchy-matchy look.
3. Find a statement piece. Finding that one piece that really speaks to you and building off it is a method that has long been used by designers. They take the inspiration piece and build off of it, so that it shines in the midst of the room. Put your one item on display, by making the rest of the room be background.
In my dining room, I have a crystal butter dish, very much like the one shown below. I love how the yellow butter glows through the pineapple cuts.
Pineapple accents are available, to scatter through out your home. There are pineapple prints, pineapple wall decor, and pineapple art. There are pictures and posters, large and small. Finding the piece you love may not be an easy task, but it will be worth the search.
Lighting is another way to add a pineapple accent. Table lamps, floor lamps, and chandeliers, for both indoors and out are available in so many different styles, it would take quite a while to list them all. I was particularly drawn to the golden, pineapple shades available for both pendants and chandeliers. Pineapple, with a twist. They had a timeless look that caught the light and sparkled.
I couldn't help showing the wonderful pineapple accent table, at the right.

nice article
I love this post. Nice work.
I've been looking for cabinet pulls in the shape of pineapples to go with my existing pineapple "theme". Any idea where to get them? I see the cabinet pulls that you do have, but they aren't exactly what I'm looking for. I'd like them to be silver and in the actual shape of a pineapple. Ever seen those?
Love pineapples but have never thought of using them as home decor before. Thank you for these great ideas.

Hey, Ivy, this is great! Who would have thunk there were so many pineapple things. The doorbells are great. How in the heck did you come up with all this stuff? Nice work.
